Homecoming Festivities

We celebrated our 100th Homecoming weekend recently and while I was busy for most of the weekend, I can say that it is still a wonderful time around here.

There is the football game, the parade, Pigskin Review (huge musical numbers), the Mass Meeting to learn about the history, and…

The Bonfire::

Baylor Homecoming 2006 033

This is my favorite part of Homecoming. Tradition is that each year the incoming class tries to make their bonfire bigger than the last class. There are games, hot chocolate, cider, and live bands that all lead up to the lighting of the bonfire.

Nothing beats the energy at the bonfire. It is so hot that you have tears in your eyes. And even though it brings about destruction, at the same time there is a measure of hope in it as well. There are many times in life when you simply have to burn it all to the ground and start over.

So while it certainly represents the end, it also represents the beginning. New times, fresh, and hopeful, with renewed faith.
